Not that I’m particularly interested in romances, but Suzui did the trick by giving Yumeko exactly what she wanted: risk. The closing scene has Suzui recount how Yumeko changed the lives of everyone she had a game with.
And her passion is what affected all the people around her. We have always known that Yumeko is just and kind, but now we know that she has a place in her heart for friends as well. In the course of the game, Suzui confesses to Yumeko, Mary and Sumeragi get all fan-girly, and Yumeko acknowledges that the three are not her ‘slaves’ but her friends, a nice gesture from a woman who gets off only on gambling thrills. If the game ends with Yumeko having any points, she wins. The Fool card is instant win only if it faces her with an instant lose if it doesn’t. Now, if a card is facing Yumeko when it’s picked up then she gains those points but if it faces away she loses them. The one chosen to pick the ‘future’ card is, without doubt, the real protagonist of this episode, Suzui. Yumeko will choose first the ‘past’ card Kirari would choose second the ‘present’ card. The game? After an inspiring conversation between the President and Yumeko about fate, they decide that they will pick up three cards in total, each card representing either the past, the present, or the future. The stakes? The loser will have to leave the academy. Runa Yomozuki, the little gaming brat who is all about objectivity is the judge of this game. There is also the Fool card that has 0 points. The final gamble of the season finds the President and Yumeko (who are DEFINITELY related in some way) compete in a game that uses a Tarot deck of 22 cards valued from 1-21. A tribute to all the characters and a special moment for our male protagonist, Suzui. I am sure that many viewers were expecting a different result to the game, but I found it to be the best ending this show could have given us. Kakeguruiended its run with an anime original episode that brought things to something of a closure.
